Tell us about your family.
My dad's name is John and my mom is Lynn. I have 2 brothers, one older (John) and one younger (Matt). John and I are 2.5 years apart in age, while Matt is 7 years away from me...quite a gap between me and the caboose. We have lived in St. Clair Shores, MI for about 20 years. We are a very sporty family with our favorites being basketball, soccer, and football.
How did you end up at New Life Church?
I believe that God planned for me to become a part of New Life. My senior year of high school I was trying to get into Johns Hopkins for their reputable med school, but I was waitlisted and never got accepted. I came to U of M, not knowing how good this school is, (leaders and best, people!) and I lived on North Campus (somewhat away from society). I took an engineering course, even though I wasn't an engineer, and one of my classmates invited me to a NLC dorm activity (really a God thing). A guy I met playing basketball was there leading worship and he invited me to the church. I went my 2nd or 3rd Sunday on campus and kept going ever since.
Why are you still here?
I think the biggest reason I'm still at NLC is because of the beautiful community and the real and loving relationships I have built in this church. The openness and acceptance of the staff and the students here always blows me away and helps me to walk in grace and unconditional love like I never have before. I've never had friends like these people. We do life together, we pursue God together, and there's no one else I'd rather do this with.
What do you do here?
I lead one of our campus teams in the West Quad dorm area. We call ourselves the WestSide New Life Team (NLT). I help organize our small groups, lead our team in evangelism, coach our students leaders, and shepherd students on campus. I'm really passionate about reaching out to the lost and that is a priority in my job description. I'm also a pastor in training. My hope is to be a pastor and church-planter in the near future...woo!
